Job summary
Newport News Shipbuilding is seeking engineers to analyze, research, and develop structural specifications for metal, non-metallic, and composite materials used in naval platforms. The role involves damage tolerance, design allowables, and structural modeling across ships, subsystems, and power/propulsion structures.
Responsibilities include conducting dynamic analyses with FEA tools (CATIA/NASTRAN/Abaqus), coordinating with cross-functional teams, and delivering technically precise proposals,
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in engineering (ABET-accredited) with 2 years of exempt experience or Master’s Degree with relevant experience.
- Experience with structural analysis and design environments.
- Familiarity with FEMAP, Abaqus, Teamcenter, Hypermesh, ATIS, DDMS, and MATLAB is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Analyze and research structural engineering specifications for metal, composite, and non-metallic materials.
- Perform dynamic structural (shock) analyses using FEA tools and hand calculations.
- Coordinate with design, test, construction teams and external customers (e.g., NAVSEA, vendors).
- Prepare technical submittals, design proposals, drawings, and procedures.
