C.P. Bourg Inc., a leading global manufacturer of print feeding and finishing equipment, is seeking a hands‑on National Field Service Technician to join our Technical Service team.
This position is ideal for a mechanically inclined technician who enjoys working directly with industrial machinery, diagnosing equipment failures, performing repairs and adjustments, and getting machines back into reliable operation.
You will support customers, dealers, and print industry partners throughout the Americas by installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing our inline and offline feeding, binding, and booklet‑making equipment.
We are looking for someone who understands how machines work and has practical experience working on mechanical equipment.
Candidates with backgrounds in industrial machinery, manufacturing equipment, automation, packaging machinery, bindery equipment, or other mechanical service environments are encouraged to apply. Direct printing industry experience is a plus, but not required.
This is a field‑based role combining hands‑on mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, equipment installation, customer training, and technical support. The successful candidate must be comfortable working independently at customer sites and traveling extensively throughout the United States.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical and electrical problems on industrial printing and finishing equipment.
- Perform hands‑on repairs, machine adjustments, component replacements, mechanical alignments, and equipment calibration.
- Troubleshoot machine assemblies, motors, drives, sensors, actuators, feeding mechanisms, and other electromechanical components.
- Install, assemble, commission, test, and validate new equipment at customer locations.
- Identify the root causes of machine malfunctions and implement effective, lasting repairs.
- Perform equipment inspections and preventative maintenance to help ensure reliable machine operation.
- Use technical drawings, mechanical diagrams, electrical schematics, service manuals, and diagnostic tools to identify and resolve equipment problems.
- Provide remote troubleshooting assistance by phone and determine when an on‑site service visit is necessary.
- Train customers, dealers, and partner service technicians on equipment operation, maintenance, adjustment, and troubleshooting.
- Support equipment demonstrations, trade shows, customer open houses, and new product launches.
- Use a laptop and company software for equipment diagnostics, machine configuration, software or firmware updates, and service documentation.
- Document service visits, repairs, replacement parts, troubleshooting findings, and recommendations accurately.
- Maintain spare parts requirements and coordinate with customers, dealers, and internal teams to resolve service issues.
- Build strong customer relationships through professional communication, dependable service, and effective problem‑solving.
Qualifications and Experience
Required Qualifications
- Hands‑on experience maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, or servicing mechanical equipment or industrial machinery.
- A practical understanding of mechanical systems, moving components, machine assemblies, and equipment operation.
- The ability to diagnose equipment failures, identify root causes, and perform repairs using appropriate tools and technical documentation.
- Basic electrical and electromechanical troubleshooting skills, including familiarity with motors, sensors, switches, drives, or similar components.
- Mechanical aptitude and the ability to disassemble, adjust, reassemble, and test equipment.
- The ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, service manuals, and technical diagrams, with electrical schematic experience strongly preferred.
- Basic computer skills and the ability to use a laptop for machine diagnostics, configuration, software updates, and service reporting.
- Strong customer service, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
- The ability to work independently, organize service activities, and make sound technical decisions in the field.
- A valid driver's license and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively and respond to customer service needs on short notice.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as a Field Service Technician, Industrial Maintenance Technician, Machine Repair Technician, Mechanical Technician, or Equipment Service Technician.
- Experience with automated machinery, production equipment, packaging machinery, printing presses, bindery equipment, or other electromechanical systems.
- Familiarity with pneumatic systems, motors, gearboxes, belts, bearings, sensors, drives, and mechanical adjustments.
- Experience installing, commissioning, maintaining, or repairing complex machinery at customer facilities.
- Experience training customers or other technicians on equipment operation and maintenance.
- Previous experience in the printing, graphic arts, or print finishing industry.
Travel Requirements
This position requires approximately 50–75% national travel throughout the continental United States.
The successful candidate must be willing and able to:
- Travel to customer sites for equipment installations, repairs, preventative maintenance, and training.
- Respond to urgent equipment failures and on‑site service escalations, sometimes with short notice.
- Work overtime as necessary to meet customer and business requirements.
- Work independently in manufacturing and production environments while maintaining a professional, safety‑conscious approach.
Education
An associate degree or technical training in mechanical engineering technology, industrial maintenance, mechatronics, electromechanical systems, or a related technical field is preferred.
Equivalent hands‑on experience servicing, maintaining, or repairing machinery will also be considered. Practical mechanical experience is more important than a specific degree.
