About the Opportunity

A national public accounting and advisory firm is seeking an experienced Energy Industry Group Leader to lead and expand its energy practice in Houston, TX.

This position will focus on strategic growth, business development, client relationship management, and leadership of the firm’s energy industry group. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in public accounting audit, significant experience serving upstream oil and gas companies, and extensive SEC reporting experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the strategic direction and continued growth of the firm’s energy industry group.
• Develop and execute business development initiatives to expand the firm’s presence within the upstream oil and gas sector.
• Build and maintain relationships with energy companies, executives, investors, and industry stakeholders.
• Oversee key client relationships and coordinate the delivery of audit, tax, and advisory services across the energy practice.
• Provide industry expertise and technical guidance on accounting, auditing, and financial reporting matters affecting upstream oil and gas companies.
• Collaborate with partners and practice leaders to identify cross-service opportunities and expand client relationships.
• Support the recruitment, development, and mentorship of professionals within the energy industry group.
• Represent the firm at industry conferences, networking events, and business development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Extensive public accounting experience with a strong background in external audit.
• Significant experience auditing upstream oil and gas companies, particularly exploration and production (E&P) businesses.
• Strong SEC audit and reporting experience, including experience serving publicly traded companies.
• Active CPA license required.
• Strong understanding of US GAAP, SEC regulations, and PCAOB auditing standards.
• Knowledge of accounting and financial reporting considerations specific to upstream oil and gas companies.
• Demonstrated success in business development, client relationship management, and revenue generation.
• Experience leading teams, developing professionals, and driving practice growth.
• Established relationships within the Houston energy market preferred.
• Prior experience at the Partner, Principal, or comparable senior leadership level.

The ideal candidate is an established Audit Partner or Principal within a public accounting firm who has extensive experience serving upstream oil and gas clients, including SEC registrants. This individual should have strong technical audit expertise, an established network within the energy industry, and a demonstrated ability to develop new business and lead the strategic growth of an industry practice.
