Job summary

Job description

Position Summary

The Graduate Assistant is responsible for the operations of the UIW Natatorium; this includes scheduling and supervising daily lifeguard coverage, cleaning, maintenance and repair of equipment and the facility (including dressing rooms). The Graduate Assistant reports to the Director of Sports and Wellness. This is a student position open to UIW graduate students.

Essential Functions

• Schedule and supervise lifeguards and technicians.
• Create and schedule continuing education ensuring lifeguards meet certification requirements.
• Complete daily walk-through of the facility.
• Coordinate, work, and run swim meet events.
• Supervise the natatorium during holiday and school break schedules as required by the Director of Sports and Wellness.
• Understand and represent the mission and vision of UIW and UIW Sports and Wellness.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
• Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
• Knowledge of swimming, diving, and/or synchronized swimming at the collegiate level.
• Ability to plan, organize and schedule staff.
• Ability to supervise and direct the work of others.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
• Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.

Required Education

UIW Graduate Student.

Required Work Experience

At least one (1) year of previous lifeguard experience.

Preferred Qualifications

One (1) year experience in pool program/setting, sports management atmosphere.

Required Certifications

• CPR and First Aid Certification
• American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification

Work Hours

• 20 hours per week required.
• Swim meets occur nights and weekends.

Physical Demands

• Ability to swim 500 m in 20 minutes to pass lifeguard certification.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment physical skills evaluation as stipulated by the department.
• Position requires manual labor with the ability to lift 50 pounds.

Compensation and Benefits

Tuition waive and $13.00 per hour over 20 hours, up to 25 hours.
