Job summary

The Louisiana State Museum in New Orleans, LA, is seeking a part-time Tourism Information Counselor to provide safety and interpretive services in galleries and public areas. You may serve as the initial contact for visitors and groups, maintain knowledge of LSM programs, and assist with educational programs and special events.

One year of related experience is requested; experience can be substituted by college hours.

Qualifications

One year of experience in tourism information, public relations, customer service, or teaching.
Experience substitution: 30 semester hours earned substitutes for one year of required experience.
Ability to operate a cash register and handle payments while providing accurate change and receipts.

Responsibilities

Monitor galleries to assure safety of artifacts, buildings, and guests.
Monitor and alert designated museum administrator in case of crisis or disturbance.
Assist visitors with questions; provide information about programs, exhibits, and local attractions; distribute brochures and maps.
Operate the POS ticketing system; process payments; explain discounts; balance cash drawer at day’s end.
Assist curatorial staff with cleaning exhibits and artifacts after training.
Support museum programming, tours, and events in visitor services or building monitoring.
Perform other duties as required.
