Job summary

Louisiana State Museum in New Orleans is seeking a part-time Tourism Information Counselor to provide basic safety and interpretive services across galleries and the museum campus. You may serve as the first point of contact for visitors and groups, while staying fluent in LSM programs and exhibits and adapting to schedule changes.

You will assist with educational programs, school tours, and special events, using POS systems and handling payments, while helping train new staff and supporting

Qualifications

  • One year of experience in tourism information, public relations, customer service, or teaching.
  • Substitution: Every 30 semester hours substitutes for one year of experience.
  • Fluency and knowledge of Louisiana State Museum programs and exhibits.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor galleries to assure safety of artifacts, buildings, and guests.
  • Monitor and alert designated museum administrator in case of crisis or disturbance.
  • Assist visitors with questions and manage flow of visitors to follow museum rules.
  • Provide information on LSM programming, distribute brochures and maps, and answer questions about exhibits and history.
  • Operate ticketing and group reservations systems, handle payments, and balance the cash drawer daily.
  • Assist in training new Tourism Information Counselor staff.
  • After training, assist curatorial staff with cleaning exhibits and artifacts.
  • Support museum programming, tours, and events as needed.
