Job summary

The Davenport House Museum is seeking a Museum Assistant to join our Visitor Services team. The role involves leading guided tours, supporting self-guided exploration, working in the gift shop, and helping with public programs and events. Weekend and evening availability is important for this position.

Ideal candidates are personable, dependable, and passionate about engaging the public with history. This is a part-time role requiring 15 hours per week at $15 per hour.

Qualifications

• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills for diverse visitors.
• Comfortable using point-of-sale systems and processing transactions.
• Flexible and adaptable in a dynamic museum environment with evening/weekend shifts.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and move around the building.

Responsibilities

• Conduct guided tours of the Davenport House with engaging storytelling.
• Assist in the Museum Shop and support sales activities.
• Supervise self-guided tour periods and engage visitors appropriately.
• Answer visitor questions about the museum history and exhibitions.
• Monitor visitor flow and ensure safety and security in spaces.
• Assist with setup, execution, and breakdown of programs and events, including after-hours.
