Job summary

Oakland University is seeking a full-time position at Meadow Brook Estate to clean historical interior elements, rooms, and collections, ensuring a safe, clean environment for Meadow Brook Hall's historical resources. The role involves routine building and collections care and coordinating with the Curator on preservation guidelines.

Responsibilities include handling collection objects, prepping for displays, and balancing collections care with education and visitor safety.

  • This position will carry out routine building and collections care duties according to schedules and seasonal needs.
  • The person will identify the need for any non-routine building maintenance or repairs and consult with the Curator to determine appropriate procedures with regard to historic preservation guidelines and standards.
  • This position will support the Curator with handling collection objects, prepping for special displays and exhibits. The person’s schedule will balance the needs of collections care, education, interpretation, and visitor safety and experience.
  • The holder of this position will have a team approach and work well with staff, volunteers, and the public.

Desired Qualifications

  • Trained on or familiar with museum protocols for cleaning and moving collection items.
  • Experience working within a historic structure or museum setting.
  • Familiarity with historic preservation techniques.
