Job summary

Oakland University is seeking a part-time groundskeeper to maintain the Meadow Brook Hall estate grounds and assist with Winter Wonder Lights. This casual/temporary role runs Oct 1 through Jan 31, with a schedule of up to 19 hours per week and no benefits.

The position requires physical stamina for mowing, trimming, lifting up to 60 pounds, and operating grounds equipment. A high school diploma and a valid Michigan driver’s license are required.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school graduation or equivalent. Ability to read directions and written instructions.
• Performs physically active work requiring frequent standing, reaching, walking, bending, shoveling, pushing, climbing on a ladder and lifting in order to perform various grounds and event operations tasks.
• Frequent lifting requiring the execution of up to sixty pounds of force to move and use supplies, landscaping materials, grounds equipment.
• Completion of an employment physical to verify the applicant’s ability to perform the duties of the position is required.
• Work with fertilizers and other substances that may produce strong and/or offensive odors and works in various conditions with extremes in the heat and cold.
• A valid Michigan driver’s license, a driving record acceptable to the University and a criminal background check are required.

Job Duties

Part-time groundskeeper is responsible for tasks such as mowing, string trimming, picking up trash, planting flowers, utilizing various types of grounds equipment. Managing supplies, irrigation and overall maintenance of the estate grounds. This position also assists with set up and removal Winter Wonder Lights and seasonal holiday light displays
