Job summary

Bowdoin College in Brunswick, ME is seeking a Museum Security Officer to oversee public safety, protect property, and maintain order within the Museum and on museum grounds. Responsibilities include opening and securing the Museum, patrolling galleries and offices, supervising visitors, and protecting collections.

The role is casual, part-time (12–19 hours/week), on-site at Bowdoin College Campus in Brunswick, with year-round coverage and shifts between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Some college coursework preferred.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to work under pressure calmly during stressful situations.
• Strong written and verbal communication for reports, emails, and correspondences.
• Problem-solving and decision-making with a variety of people.

Responsibilities

• Open and secure the Museum daily, patrol galleries, offices, and storage areas.
• Protect collections and facilities; supervise visitors and monitor activities.
• Assist visitors, staff, and patrons and maintain positive relations with the College and community.
• Familiarize with building systems (intrusion alarms, fire panels, HVAC).
• Diffuse situations with tact and explain procedures to the public as needed.
• Investigate incidents and ensure safety and property protection.
