Job summary

UCB is seeking a Scientist II or Senior Scientist to join the Muscle Biology team in a wet-lab setting. The role involves designing studies, producing and interpreting data, and contributing to drug discovery projects in Durham, NC or Cambridge, MA, with in-person lab work five days a week.

Requirements include molecular and cell biology knowledge, experience with in vitro technology and screening, and strong communication across disciplines.

Qualifications

• BS/BA in a relevant field with 5–10 years of experience for Scientist II; MS 1–3 years or PhD 0–2 years.
• BS/MS/PhD for Senior Scientist: 12+ years or PhD 5–10 years in a relevant field.
• 1+ years experience with in vitro muscle cell biology or neuromuscular disease models.
• 1+ years experience applying cellular/biochemical techniques for target identification, validation, genetic screening, and mechanism of action studies.
• 1+ years experience in molecular biology approaches and advanced cell biology techniques (flow cytometry, gene/protein analysis, PCR, cloning, lentiviral library prep).
• Excellent communicator capable of cross-disciplinary collaboration and independent work.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute assays to identify/validate novel targets and assess biology in screening models.
• Develop novel in vitro assays for functional genomics and drug development.
• Provide scientific insight in project discussions with chemists, cell biologists, disease area experts, and engineers.
• Contribute to Neuromuscular projects with strong scientific thinking, hypotheses, and data interpretation.
