Job summary

U.S. Army Sustainment Command at Joint Base Lewis-McChord seeks a Munitions Inspector to conduct routine and special inspections of conventional and non-standard ammunition, ensuring quality and safety across maintenance and production stages.

You will assist QA during surveys and SOP preparation, inspect a wide range of munitions, and verify incoming materials for compliance with references and standards. A pre-employment physical, clearance eligibility, and safety certifications are required.

Qualifications

• Ability to perform the work of a Munitions Inspector without more than normal supervision.
• Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (related to mobile equipment operation).

• Perform periodic storage and special inspections to determine quality, safety, and condition of a wide variety of ammunition, sub-components, and materials used in the maintenance, modification, and manufacture of ammunition items.
• Perform quality monitoring of maintenance operations, area inspections, and magazine storage inspections.

• The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a Forklift Operator Certification.
• This position requires Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel approximately 10% of the time away from your permanent duty station.
• The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
• This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work performance requires moderately heavy lifting (40 lbs), good eyesight, and considerable standing, kneeling, squatting and bending.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Works both inside and outside, exposed to dirt, grease, cleaning solvents, sharp metal strapping, high explosives and propellants, bare boostering explosives, chemical smoke devices, flammable solids (i.e., WP, RP, powdered metals, etc.,) electrostatically initiated ammunition, materials sensitive to static sparks and nonstandard materials. The worker is exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, falls or accidents with moving equipment. Employee is required to wear safety shoes, coveralls, face shields, goggles, masks, gloves, hard hat, hearing protection and/or other safety equipment and clothing while engaged in various surveillance operations and inspections.
