Job summary

The City of Williamsburg’s Landscape Division is seeking a Municipal Service Worker I to perform a range of public works maintenance tasks, including manual labor and equipment operation. The role requires a high school diploma or GED (or equivalent) and may involve up to six months of heavy manual labor experience.

Applicants must obtain a Virginia Class B CDL within 18 months and may need Confined Space, Flagger, Trench and Shoring, CPR/First Aid, and PACP certifications.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Six months of experience performing heavy manual labor or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform municipal maintenance tasks in one or more public works/public utilities areas.
• Operate basic equipment as part of maintenance activities.

Job Opportunities

The City of Williamsburg’s Landscape Division is currently seeking candidates for the Municipal Service Worker I position. This position is responsible for performing a variety of municipal maintenance activities involving manual labor with equipment operation in one or more public works/public utilities areas. Performs semi-skilled work requiring some training and experience.

Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent; or
• Six (6) months of experience performing heavy manual labor or
• An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Qualifications:

• A valid Virginia Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License or ability to obtain one within 18 months
• Must possess or obtain appropriate training licensing requirements as required, which may include:
  • Confined Space Certification;
  • Flagger Certification;
  • Trench and Shoring Certification.
  • CPR/First Aid
  • PACP
• Must submit to criminal record and other checks as may be required
