Job summary

The City of Lenexa is seeking a Prosecutor to join its legal team. The role focuses on prosecuting cases in Lenexa Municipal Court and pursuing appeals in the District Court and beyond.

The incumbent will represent the City in court, negotiate resolutions, perform legal research, and draft memos and ordinances for municipal prosecutions. Minimum qualifications include a Juris Doctorate, admission to the Kansas State Bar, and U.S.

Qualifications

• Minimum: Juris Doctorate degree from accredited law school, admission and membership in good standing (or ability to be admitted) to the Kansas State Bar and the United States District Court for the District of Kansas, compliance with annual CLE requirements, and possess a valid drivers' license.

Responsibilities

• Prosecute cases in Municipal Court and handle de novo appeals to District Court and appellate courts.
• Analyze evidence, conduct legal research, draft pleadings and ordinances for prosecution.
• Negotiate case resolutions with pro se defendants and defense attorneys.
• Draft and interpret City Codes, ordinances, policies, contracts and other legal documents.
