Job summary

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Accounting required; municipal experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and cost accounting in government.
• Experience with budgets, accounts payable, and payroll processes.
• Ability to supervise staff and train others.
• Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Prepares an annual budget, portion of a budget, or divisional representation of a budget, including preparing proposals and documenting decisions.
• Monitors and prepares specialized reports relating to cost accounting procedures.
• Posts and balances general and subsidiary accounts.
• Audits, computes, and records financial transactions.
• Reviews and approves purchase requisitions for goods and services; conducts cost feasibility studies.
• Supervises accounting personnel in accounts processing and purchasing activities.
• Prepares specifications for the purchase of goods and services; uploads purchasing card records.
• Monitors financial accounts reports for accuracy.
• Prepares budget adjustments and determines accounts to be utilized.
• Compiles data and publishes reports on departmental operations; assists with grant administration.
• Provides guidance to new employees and attends meetings to stay current on practices.
