This position performs technical accounting functions in support of assigned department operations.

This position performs technical accounting functions in support of assigned department operations.

Major Duties
  • Prepares and process department payroll records; maintains attendance records; enters overtime amounts, holiday pay, special pay hours, etc.; submits to Human Resources.
  • Creates and enters purchase orders; enters changes to existing purchase orders; updates spreadsheets to reflect changes.
  • Receives and audits invoices for accuracy and processes for payment.
  • Resolves vendor problems and issues.
  • Prepares budget reports.
  • Manages purchasing card accounts.
  • Processes accounts payable.
  • Maintains and updates websites.
  • Copies, faxes, and scans documents.
  • Maintains office supply inventory; reorders as needed.
  • Maintains inventory of department forms.
  • Maintains files and records.
  • Prepares a variety of regular and special reports.
  • Sells burial spaces when assigned to the City Cemetery; coordinates burials with funeral homes; maintains burial records.
  • Performs related duties.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of city payroll processes.
  • Knowledge of city purchasing policies.
  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Knowledge of accounts payable and receivable processes.
  • Knowledge of customer service principles and practices.
  • Skill in data entry.
  • Skill in problem solving.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations.
  • Skill in operating office equipment such as a computer and standard business software, copier, calculator, and facsimile machine.
