Job summary

The City of Raleigh is seeking a capable Accountant to join the Accounting Division in the Finance Department. You will prepare journal entries, reconcile ledgers, and review financial transactions in line with City policy and GAAP requirements.

You will collaborate with multiple departments, support year-end close and ACFR reporting, and help implement accounting policies and procedures to ensure accurate financial reporting across funds and grants.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field required.
• 1–3 years of accounting or related experience preferred.
• Equivalent combination of training and/or experience acceptable.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and governmental accounting standards.

Responsibilities

• Prepare journal entries, year-end accruals, and reconciliations for all City departments to ensure data and general ledger integrity.
• Reconcile quarterly external grant reporting and monitoring grant activity; prepare fiscal analyses for annual City funding.
• Verify budget and approve wires and non-purchase order requests from City departments.
• Support monthly and year-end close processes, and assist with ACFR and regulatory reporting.
