Job summary

The City of Raleigh is seeking an Accountant to join the Accounting Division in the Finance Department. The role focuses on maintaining the general ledger, preparing financial statements, and ensuring GAAP compliance while supporting grant management and regulatory reporting.

Ideal candidates will have a bachelor's degree in accounting and 1–3 years of accounting experience, with strong analytical and communication skills. This is an on-site position within municipal government.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
• 1–3 years of accounting experience.
• Experience with general ledger, reconciliations and financial reporting.

Responsibilities

• Prepares journal entries, year-end accruals, and account/fund reconciliations for all City departments to ensure general ledger integrity.
• Prepares bank reconciliations for City accounts; acts as subject matter expert for fiscal staff.
• Reconciles quarterly external grant reporting and prepares fiscal analysis of audited statements; monitors grant activity across departments.
• Verifies budget and approves wires and non-purchase order payment requests.
• Monitors deadlines and coordinates timely reporting for financial information and deliverables.
• Conducts cash audits and physical inventory of assets; reports findings affecting financial operations and controls.
• Collaborates on revisions and recommendations for accounting policies and procedures; authors new procedures and workflows.
• Assists in monthly and year-end close and in preparing schedules for ACFR and regulatory reporting.
