Job summary

City of Kirkwood is seeking an Accountant to maintain accurate financial records, support reporting and budgeting, and assist with the annual audit. You will reconcile accounts, review transactions, prepare reports, and provide information to City departments while working under the Finance Director’s supervision.

The role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently with cross-department collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Two years of professional accounting experience, preferably in governmental accounting or fund accounting.
• Experience with municipal financial management software, such as Tyler/Munis, is highly desirable.
• Working knowledge of GAAP and GASB standards.
• Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills for diverse staff.

Responsibilities

• Reconcile daily cash receipts and prepare daily postings.
• Review bank activity and ensure accurate general ledger entries.
• Prepare and reconcile bank, credit card, and other accounts.
• Prepare general ledger entries and maintain supporting docs.
• Assist with monthly/quarterly financial reports and budget analysis.
