Job summary

The City of Kirkwood is seeking an Accountant to maintain accurate financial records, support reporting and budget development, and prepare for the annual audit. The role performs reconciliations, reviews transactions, and provides financial information to City departments.

Under the supervision of the Finance Director, the Accountant will prepare general ledger entries, assist with monthly/quarterly financial reports, monitor budgets, and coordinate audit schedules.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Two years of professional accounting experience, preferably governmental.
• Experience with municipal financial software (e.g., Tyler/Munis) encouraged.
• Knowledge of GAAP; GASB standards understanding.
• Strong analytical and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Reconcile daily cash receipts and post reconciliations.
• Review bank activity and ensure accurate general ledger entries.
• Prepare and reconcile credit card and other monthly accounts.
• Process bank reconciliations for all City bank accounts.
• Review and approve payroll and P-card postings.
• Collaborate on monthly/quarterly financial reports and budget analysis.
• Assist with annual audit preparation and ACFR schedules.
• Provide information and guidance to City departments on accounting matters.
