Job summary

The Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS) in New York State requires Maintenance Assistants to perform semiskilled maintenance and repair work on an as-needed basis. Responsibilities include operating machine tools, plumbing/steamfitting, carpentry, heating systems, painting, electrical repairs, and other duties as assigned.

This hourly position emphasizes reliability, basic trade skills, and the ability to follow instructions.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience in maintenance or completion of a two-year technical school course.
• Skilled in one or more trades; demonstrates computer literacy.
• Ability to read and understand written and oral instructions; valid NYS driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Operates machine tools; performs routine replacement and repair of plumbing and steamfitting.
• Cuts, welds, and brazes metal materials and equipment; conducts semiskilled carpentry activities.
• Operates and maintains heating and hot water equipment; assists in repairing and maintaining locks.
• Performs semiskilled masonry repairs and installation activities; repairs, rebuilds, and assists in installing roofs.
• Assists in painting and decorating work by interior and exterior painting.
• Performs routine electrical tasks, including repairing electrical equipment; other duties as assigned.
