Job summary

The Salvation Army in New York, NY seeks a Maintenance/Handyperson to perform routine repairs and upkeep around the facility and assist in cleaning. You will handle carpentry, plumbing, electrical tasks, and floor care while ensuring safety and compliance with policies.

Your duties include building partitions, replacing doors, unclogging plumbing, wiring, servicing HVAC, and supporting daily operations and client movement with reliability and professionalism.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma, G.E.D. or trade certification.
• Able to work comfortably within a difficult population.
• Experience with cleaning and repair equipment, including vacuum/shop vac, floor machines.
• Basic knowledge of carpentry, electricity and plumbing.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Valid Driver's License.
• CPR & First Aid trained.

Responsibilities

• Carpentry – repair structures using wood, wallboard and tiles.
• Plumbing – unclog drains, replace fittings and fixtures.
• Electrical – replace fuses, test circuits, install outlets and lights.
• VAC – operate low-pressure boilers and related systems.
• Floor Care – buff, strip and wax floors.
• Submit maintenance supply requisitions weekly.
• Complete monthly physical plant and fire safety audits.
• Establish preventative maintenance schedules.
• Ensure overall facility cleanliness.
• Assist in moving clients and supervise small setups.
• Maintain vehicle records and mileage before/after trips.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings.
• Adhere to HIPAA, confidentiality and safety policies.
• Be available for on-call and overtime as needed.
