Job summary

New York State Center for Recruitment & Public Service is seeking Maintenance Assistants to perform semi-skilled maintenance across multiple trades. Responsibilities include repairs, grounds work, painting, and overseeing contractors on-site. Strong reading/writing in English and the ability to operate tools safely are required.

Two-year technical schooling or two years of related experience are acceptable, with a focus on reliability and adaptability in a state facility environment.

Qualifications

• Two years of full-time experience in maintenance or mechanical work under supervision of a skilled trades worker or supervisor.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must be able to read and write in English.
• Ability to work at heights (ladders, scaffolds, platforms, lifts).
• Must be able to push, pull, lift and carry heavy objects (50+ lbs).
• Familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine semi-skilled maintenance and repair of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry and other facilities and equipment.
• Perform grounds maintenance such as mowing, trimming, snow removal, and trash collection.
• Maintain facilities by cleaning, painting, and moving furniture.
• Troubleshoot equipment and machinery and resolve concerns promptly.
• May supervise subordinates and act as primary contact for contractors on-site.
