Job summary

The Salvation Army in New York, NY is seeking a Maintenance/Handyperson to perform routine repairs around the facility and assist with cleaning and sanitation to meet safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities include carpentry, plumbing, electrical tasks, floor care, inventory control, and facility audits. The role requires a HS diploma or trade cert, a valid driver’s license, CPR/First Aid training, and the ability to work with residents and staff in a supportive, compliant environment.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma, G.E.D. or trade certification.
• Experience with cleaning and repair equipment (vacuum, floor machines).
• Basic knowledge of carpentry, electricity and plumbing.
• Knowledge of boilers, electrical machinery, elevators, HVAC and fire pump/standpipe systems.
• CPR & First Aid training.
• Valid Driver’s License required.
• Able to work with residents and maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Carpentry repairs; work with wood, walls, doors and locks.
• Plumbing tasks: unclog sinks/ drains, replace fixtures and soldering where needed.
• Electrical work: replace fuses, test circuits, install outlets and lighting.
• Floor care: buffing, stripping and waxing floors quarterly.
• Assist with general facility cleaning and sanitation.
• Submit maintenance supply requisitions and manage inventory.
• Perform monthly safety audits and assist with preventive maintenance.
• Move clients as needed and supervise installation of furniture.
• Maintain vehicle records and participate in meetings and trainings.
• Comply with HIPAA, confidentiality, life-safety policies and company rules.
