Job summary

The Medical Assistant at MedStar Health performs clinical and administrative duties in an ambulatory care setting under the supervision of a physician/provider and/or a registered nurse. Duties may include venipuncture, vaccine administration, measurement and documentation of vital signs, and assisting with patient exams and telephone and clerical support.

The position may float to other sites within the system.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; MA program preferred.
• Excellent communication and patient interaction skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced ambulatory care setting.

Responsibilities

• Assists providers with patient preparation for examinations and minor procedures.
• Performs venipuncture, specimen collection, and point-of-care tests as directed.
• Documents in EMR and maintains accurate patient records.
• Screens patients for preventive care needs and coordination of referrals.
• Participates in team huddles and supports patient flow across sites.
• Maintains infection prevention and safety standards.
