Job summary

MedStar Health seeks a Medical Assistant to perform clinical and administrative duties in ambulatory care under supervision. The role includes venipuncture, vaccines, vital signs, and assisting with exams and clerical support. The position may float to other sites within the system.

Responsibilities include preparing patients, supporting the care team, and ensuring accurate EMR documentation. The candidate will participate in team huddles, patient screening, and routine lab testing as required.

Qualifications

• Less than 1 year (6 months) experience in ambulatory care medical office or equivalent required; externship in a medical or ambulatory health setting strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Contributes to department goals and adheres to policies and safety standards.
• Assists providers with patient preparation, examinations, and education; supports care team and manages patient flow.
• Screens patients for preventive care needs, barriers to care, and safety concerns; participates in transitions of care and referrals.
• Performs selected point-of-care tests and documents in EMR; supports specimen collection and follow-up.
• Provides telephone screening to gather information and determine disposition; participates in quality and safety initiatives.
