Job description

Executive Underwriter - UH07BD Senior Underwriter - UH08BA Underwriter - UH08BB

We’re determined to make a difference and are proud to be an insurance company that goes well beyond coverages and policies. Working here means having every opportunity to achieve your goals – and to help others accomplish theirs, too. Join our team as we help shape the future.

The Multinational Underwriter is a specialized role within our underwriting practice. In this position, you will be part of The Hartford’s (HIG’s) growth initiatives, focusing on developing and executing a broader multinational risk strategy that supports small, mid-size, and large U.S. domiciled risks. Specifically, in partnership with our home office and regional underwriting teams, this Center role will underwrite Canadian policies, provide subject matter expertise on Canadian insurance laws and regulations to U.S. businesses, assist with projects related to our strategy in Canada, and offer multinational expertise at the point of sale to differentiate HIG’s Multinational Choice offering.

Success in this role requires demonstrated sales and negotiation skills, strategic planning for new business development, account expansion, cross-selling opportunities, and renewal retention. The underwriting scope includes Property and Casualty lines of business.

We’ll Be a Good Match if You Have:

  • A customer-first mindset, putting our customers at the center of everything you do.

  • A passion for making decisions through data analysis and critical thinking.

  • A team spirit and desire to collaborate effectively.

  • A positive attitude and pride in delivering quality work.

  • The ability to own your work and follow through on commitments.

  • Adaptability to navigate a fluid and changing business environment.

  • Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to foster trust among diverse groups.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree strongly preferred, or equivalent experience and training.

  • 3+ years of Multinational P&C insurance experience, with a preference for experience working with Canadian insureds.

  • Proven success in developing and maintaining relationships with internal and external partners.

  • High energy, resilient self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit.

  • Goal-oriented with a track record of delivering outcomes.

  • Ability to challenge the status quo and compete to win.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.

  • Strong analytical thinking skills to assess business problems and recommend solutions.

  • Effective time, organizational, and desk management skills.

  • Superior technical knowledge and sound decision-making ability.

  • The position level will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications and experience.

Location:
This role offers a hybrid or remote work arrangement. Candidates living near listed office locations are expected to work in-office three days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Remote candidates will work primarily from home with occasional in-office visits as needed.
