Job summary

Toole Design is seeking a Transportation Project Engineer to join our Mid-Atlantic team in Gaithersburg, MD. You will apply your engineering expertise across urban and rural contexts to deliver multimodal transportation solutions.

Ideal candidates bring 6+ years of experience, a PE license (or ability to obtain within 6 months), and proficiency with Synchro, MicroStation, AutoCAD, SIDRA, or VISSIM. You’ll collaborate with clients and colleagues to advance ethical, equity-centered design.

Qualifications

• PE license required within 6 months if not already held.
• 6+ years of experience in transportation engineering.
• Experience developing roadway/highway construction documents.
• Experience with signing and pavement marking per MUTCD; PROWAG familiarity.
• Experience with Highway Capacity Software, SIDRA, or VISSIM.
• Experience with permitting, agency coordination, construction documentation, and cost estimating.

Responsibilities

• Support client in day-to-day activities, including traffic studies and determinations of traffic control needs.
• Contribute to the design of transportation infrastructure projects.
• Develop signing and pavement marking plans and maintenance of traffic plans.
• Create traffic signal plans using industry software.
• Contribute to feasibility studies, concept plans, and construction documents.
• Collaborate with colleagues and clients to deliver multimodal outcomes.
• Mentor junior staff and foster technical excellence.
