Job summary

Moraine Valley Community College is seeking a Multimedia Engineer to design, install, and maintain campus-wide audiovisual and IT systems. The role includes coordinating multimedia events, recording and delivering content, and supporting virtual and hybrid environments.

You will work with faculty and staff, create system schematics, and manage vendor relationships. A bachelor’s degree in a related field and two years of experience are required, with Extron certification preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in audiovisual or multimedia field required.
  • Minimum two years of related experience, preferably in a college setting.
  • Extron Control Professional Certification or similar training preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure campus audio, video, and multimedia tech functionality, including maintenance and updates.
  • Install new audiovisual systems and control hardware.
  • Design AV/IT system schematics and interfaces.
  • Coordinate bid specs, vendor communications, and outsourcing contracts.
  • Provide training to faculty and staff on new Multimedia AV-IT technologies.
  • Support campus security systems and emergency paging.
  • Produce, record, and control access to Multimedia content.
  • Support virtual, hybrid, livestreaming, and web conferencing technologies.
  • Assist with MVCC events setup, support, and strike.
  • Manage inventories of supplies and equipment locations.
  • Communicate daily using ticketing system and chats.

Duties

Summary The Multimedia Engineer reports to the Manager of Multimedia Services and is responsible for the design, purchasing, installation, inventory, documentation, maintenance, and repair of all Multimedia Systems and some IT Systems at the college. The Multimedia Engineer may be responsible for coordinating, leading, and executing in-person, hybrid, and virtual Multimedia Events and Activities. The Multimedia Engineer may be responsible for or may assist with the production, recording, editing, and content delivery of multimedia content. In addition, the Multimedia Engineer will develop knowledge of and work with new technologies related to projects administered by the Multimedia Department. The Multimedia Engineer is dedicated to the learning college concepts by developing programs and facilitating activities that promote student success and lifelong learning.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Responsible for ensuring the functionality of all campuswide audio, video, and multimedia technologies including maintenance, repair, and software/firmware updates.

2. Responsible for the installation of new audiovisual systems including hardware, video devices, audio devices, and control systems.

3. Designs and configures AV-IT Systems including the creation of system schematics, diagrams, user interfaces, etc.

4. Responsible for creating bid specifications, reviewing contracts, vendor communications, and commissioning outsourced installations.

5. Provides training to faculty, staff, and the Center for Teaching and Learning on newly implemented Multimedia AV-IT technologies.

6. Assists with support and maintenance of campus security systems (security cameras, emergency paging, etc.)

7. Updates leadership on projects and support issues. Makes suggestions for process improvements.

8. Produces, records, edits, and controls access to Multimedia content.

9. Responsible for support of Virtual, Hybrid, Livestreaming, and Web-Conferencing Technologies.

10. Responsible for staging, set-up, support, and strike of MVCC Events for faculty, students, and staff.

11. Communicates daily using ticketing system and chats, keeping track of current support requests.

12. Responsible for inventories of supplies, tools, and consumables.

13. Responsible for tracking and logging the location and status of AV equipment.

14. Assists with coordination of tasks for Multimedia staff and student employees.

15. Provides phone support as needed.

16. Performs other related duties and provide interdepartmental/interdivisional support as assigned.

Education/Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Bachelor’s in an audiovisual or multimedia related field.
  • Minimum of two or more years of related experience, preferably in a college setting.
  • Extron Control Professional Certification or similar training preferred.

Please note that a minimum of 2 (full time equated) years is required.

Qualifications

  • Ability to effectively complete projects independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in pulling and terminating a variety of cables and connectors, including soldering and crimping types.
  • Proficiency with tools and test equipment used in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of audiovisual systems.
  • Knowledge of basic networking configurations, and audiovisual standards, formats and protocols..
  • Familiarity with audiovisual configuration tools and applications.
  • Ability to install, configure and support digital signage systems.
  • Ability to read, interpret, analyze, and apply technical manuals, specifications, diagrams, and instructions.
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems, gather and analyze data, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to research, learn, and apply new technologies, methods, and protocols.
  • Ability to prepare technical documentation, including manuals, specifications, training materials, and diagrams.
  • Ability to communicate technical information effectively with management, faculty, staff, user departments, vendors, service representatives, and members of the public.
  • Ability to respond effectively to technical inquiries and provide appropriate information or assistance.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally assist with lifting and/or moving up to 50-100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and far vision, and ability to adjust focus, color, and brightness. May occasionally required to work in confined spaces and at height on ladders and lifts; exposed to electrical hazards. Normal office working environment for most duties. Classroom and large venue environment for others. Some inter-campus travel. Occasional offsite events and travel for training/learning required.

General Hours Monday-Friday 8:00 am-5:00 pm

This role is in-person and on-campus, occasional night, weekend, on-call/emergency work, with some travel to MVCC extension campuses and occasional regional offsite events and training.
