Job summary

The Angus Journal team in Saint Joseph, MO is seeking an Assistant Editor/Associate Editor to write, edit and organize interviews, photography and videography for a multi-media publication reaching registered Angus breeders.

This role requires strong writing, AP style, proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines while traveling up to 20% of the time. In-office candidates are preferred, with remote options for experienced applicants.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in ag journalism, ag communications, technical writing or related field.
• At least 2–4 years of practical experience in a media environment.
• Livestock/animal science background or experience.

Responsibilities

• Write feature and news stories, investigate leads and gather information for Angus Journal and AJ Daily.
• Gather interviews, photography and videography for dynamic publications across media platforms.
• Collaborate with editor for editorial planning and oversee column inputs.
• Help produce Angus Journal: inputting, fact checking, proofreading, and layout proofing.
• Plan graphics assistance and advise on visual storytelling.
• Plan and execute Angus Journal social media strategy.
• Travel to events for interviews and coverage as assigned by editor.
• Advance Angus Journal editing skills and AP Style.
