Job summary

Newsela is hiring a Learning Experience Designer focused on ELA Multilingual Learning. This role centers on designing standards-aligned, engaging lessons and assessments for multilingual learners, with leadership in ELD curricula for grades 9–12.

Remote work within the US is available, offering collaboration with ELA teams and external contributors. You will shape scopes, prototype lessons, refine AI prompts, and review content for fidelity to standards and Newsela guidelines, fostering

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Linguistics, TESOL, Curriculum & Instruction, English, or related field.
• A specialized degree, endorsement, or certification related to multilingual learner education, ELD, TESOL/ESL, or language acquisition.
• 3+ years of experience in K–12 curriculum development, instructional design, or content creation with focus on multilingual learners.

Responsibilities

• Scope & Sequence Design for ELD scopes and sequences for secondary grades, selecting grade-appropriate texts.
• Prototype, author, and structure prototype lessons and activities for multilingual learners.
• Develop formative and summative assessments and rubrics aligned to ELD standards and outcomes.
• Build embedded scaffolds and differentiation to ensure accessibility across proficiency levels.
• Design and refine AI prompts to support lesson design and ensure high-quality content at scale.
• Review lessons for editorial and pedagogical accuracy per Newsela guidelines.
• Maintain rubrics, quality checklists, and naming conventions for repeatability.
