Job summary

Newsela is seeking a Learning Experience Designer, Core to lead a grade-level team in designing and producing high-quality ELA instructional materials for our core secondary curriculum. You will own alignment, coherence, and quality across units, collaborating with content and product teams to scale best practices across grade levels.

You will drive standards alignment, develop scope and sequence, and craft rubrics, activities, and assessments that meet diverse learner needs while leveraging AI

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or similar.
• 5+ years in secondary ELA curriculum design or content creation.
• Strong knowledge of CCSS and state standards.
• Excellent English writing and editing abilities.
• Ability to review content for quality and pedagogical rigor.

Responsibilities

• Own grade-level content and ensure alignment across workstreams.
• Ensure coherence and consistency of lessons, texts, and assessments.
• Verify materials align to state standards and curriculum model.
• Develop grade-level scopes and sequences for progressive instruction.
• Create and refine teacher-facing and student-facing lessons and materials.
• Draft and refine formative and summative assessments and rubrics.
• Build scaffolds to improve accessibility for multilingual learners.
• Review contributor- and AI-generated content for quality at scale.
• Collaborate with senior designers, writers, and product teams to align across grades.
