Job summary

Newsela is seeking a Learning Experience Designer to drive multilingual ELD curriculum design for grades 9-12, creating scaffolded lessons, assessments, and content optimized for multilingual learners. You will work with AI-powered content production and quality review to maintain high standards.

The role emphasizes standards alignment, evidence-based practice, and collaboration with ELA and product teams in a fully remote environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field; specialization in multilingual learners or ELD.
• 3+ years in K-12 curriculum development or instructional design focusing on multilingual learners.
• Strong knowledge of ELD standards (California ELD/ELPAC, WIDA, ELPS) and ELA pedagogy.

Responsibilities

• Design ELD scopes and sequences for secondary grades; select texts aligned to language and content objectives.
• Write prototype lessons and student-facing activities with scaffolded instruction for multilingual learners.
• Develop formative and summative assessments and rubrics to measure language growth and content mastery.
• Build scaffolds (graphic organizers, sentence frames, vocabulary) to ensure accessibility across proficiency levels.
