Job summary

Vulcan Elements in Durham, NC is seeking a Payroll Specialist to process accurate and timely payroll for a growing workforce across sites. You will calculate wages, overtime, deductions, and tax withholdings, maintain payroll records, and resolve discrepancies in compliance with federal, state, and local laws.

You’ll work with ADP, Rippling, and QuickBooks Payroll, ensuring smooth off-cycle runs, accurate benefit deductions, and timely tax filings.

Qualifications

• Requires 3 years of payroll processing experience
• Experience in multi-state payroll preferred
• Knowledge of wage and hour laws and tax withholding needed
• Experience with payroll tax filings and GL reconciliation preferred
• Strong Excel/GS skills and attention to confidentiality
• Excellent communication to resolve payroll inquiries

Responsibilities

• Verify timesheets approved by managers to confirm hours
• Compute wages, overtime, and bonuses per policy and law
• Process payroll using ADP, Rippling or QuickBooks Payroll
• Enter and maintain data on benefits deductions and tax withholdings
• Ensure new hires and terminations have accurate payroll records
• Maintain audit-ready payroll records and history
• Resolve payroll discrepancies and employee questions promptly
• Ensure compliance with wage, hour, and payroll tax laws
• Handle wage garnishments and court-ordered deductions
• Prepare payroll tax reports and reconcile liabilities
• Reconcile payroll data with general ledger for month-end close
• Audit PTO and leave accruals with People Partner
• Support payroll system upgrades and integrations
• Generate payroll reports for management and budgeting
