Job Overview
The Maintenance Multi-Craft Technician maintains production equipment to ensure the daily production requirements at Mercedes-Benz Vans are obtained.
Responsibilities
- Perform repair work including necessary disassembly and re‑assembly of production equipment
- Perform equipment preventive maintenance tasks to ensure manufacturer‑recommended specifications are maintained
- Maintain repair and maintenance records
- Properly size circuit conductors, circuit protector devices, run conduit if needed, and install electrical equipment, wiring and unwiring as required
- Use VOM and related test equipment to identify electrical problems
- Identify and analyze errors and malfunctions, such as:
- Intermittent/inconsistent electrical and mechanical failures on production equipment
- PLC’s, 24 V control circuits, 480 V 3‑phase systems, 4‑20 mA circuits, VFD’s, PC controllers and field‑bus technology/control technology
- Complex mechanical components such as pumps, motors, bearings, etc.
- Perform modernizations, extensions and modifications according to specifications and/or sketches to electrical drawings; adjust PLC programming and troubleshoot issues; independently construct or design equipment using PLC, BUS‑systems, network technology, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and cooling/lubrication systems
- Daily equipment checks and monitoring of production equipment performance
- Optimize resources and installations (idea generation and planning)
- Change processes, process parameters, hardware and software (PLC, PC, etc.)
- Perform cycle time analysis and optimize as needed
- Interact with and support associates within assigned production areas
- Procure operative materials, equipment and service providers
- Travel and/or overtime may be required
- All other duties as required to support business needs
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of industrial AC/DC electricity (24 V – 480 V), mechanical, hydraulics and/or pneumatics
- Experience changing out bearings and motors (preferred)
- Basic computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office, email)
- PLC/BUS system education and/or experience (strongly preferred)
- Robotics (Kuka, Durr) experience (strongly preferred)
- Oven and paint booth supply air maintenance experience (e.g., Maxon Gas Train) (preferred)
- Pumping system maintenance experience (preferred)
- Conveyor system maintenance experience (preferred)
- Strong communication skills (listening, speaking, writing)
- Siemens S7 PLC logic knowledge (preferred)
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED (required)
- Required: 4+ years relevant experience; OR Relevant certificate + 3 years relevant experience; OR Relevant associate’s degree + 1 year relevant experience
- Preferred: 5+ years relevant experience; OR Relevant certificate + 4 years relevant experience; OR Relevant associate’s degree + 2 years relevant experience
- Indirectly relevant experience: experience working with automation equipment, mechanical repairs, or pursuing a related degree or certification
