Job summary

Mercedes‑Benz Vans, LLC in Charleston, SC seeks a Manufacturing Engineer to monitor factory performance, allocate manpower, and strengthen production planning. You will develop and improve complex manufacturing processes and methods to meet quality and efficiency goals.

Responsibilities include driving lean initiatives, improving capacity, leading root-cause analysis with 8D problem solving, mentoring engineers, and collaborating across functions to ensure high standards for product and process

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing, Body in White preferred.
  • Proficient in 3D-CAD software (Inventor/SolidWorks/Catia/Siemens NX).
  • Knowledge of quality sensors including destructive testing.
  • Strong data processing and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to present complex technical information and influence teams.

  • Ensure implementation and execution of problem-solving for quality issues in the body shop.
  • Assess unusual circumstances and suggest data-driven variations.

  • Investigate problems, analyze root causes using 8D process to ensure quality.
  • Develop planning standards, methods, and procedures.
  • Stay current with product specifications, engineering technology and production processes.
  • Provide guidance to team members to accomplish production goals and mentor junior engineers.

Job Overview: Monitors the factory’s performance, manages and allocates manpower, and strengthens and develops the organization’s production and planning structure. Develops, implements, and improves complex manufacturing processes and methods.

Responsibilities
  • Develop best practices to improve production capacity, quality and reliability
  • Manage implementation of continuous improvement processes for efficiency to create a Lean Manufacturing environment
  • Ensure implementation and execution of problem‑solving for quality issues produced within the body shop
  • Assess unusual circumstances, suggest variations in approaches due to incomplete or conflicting data
  • Initiate and support concepts and define actions to improve production quality or processes
  • Investigate problems, analyze root causes and derive resolutions using the 8D Problem Solving Process to ensure sustainable quality products
  • Develop operational strategies to achieve production and quality objectives
  • Assure product and process quality by designing complex testing methods, testing finished products and process capabilities, establishing standards, and confirming manufacturing processes
  • Utilize system analysis of production methods/procedures and process automations for continual growth improvements
  • Perform a variety of complicated tasks relying on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
  • Evaluate current production activities and drive improvements
  • Periodically ensure that highly technical equipment meets required specifications and high quality standards
  • Implement cost reduction initiatives while maintaining high quality standards
  • Contribute to product and process quality design and testing methods
  • Develop planning standards, methods, and procedures
  • Stay current with product specifications, engineering technology and production processes
  • Provide guidance to team members to accomplish production goals; mentor and provide guidance to less senior manufacturing engineers for skill/knowledge development. Motivate, develop, direct and influence team members at all levels and cultural backgrounds of the organization
  • Participate in regularly scheduled team meetings
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering, or other relevant degree required
  • Over 5 years of relevant experience required, strongly preferring Body in White
  • 3D‑CAD experience such as Inventor, SolidWorks, Catia, Siemens NX
  • 6 years of relevant experience may be substituted for the degree
  • Knowledge of quality sensors including destructive testing and geometric technologies
  • Knowledge in the application of complex quality methods
  • Strong data processing skills
  • Knowledge of manufacturing methods/procedures and process technology
  • Ability to present complex technical information related to achieving departmental goals
  • Able to influence team members at all levels of the organization
  • Proven written and verbal communication at all levels within the organization with good negotiation skills
  • Able to anticipate needs and deliver timely, relevant solutions and actions
  • Knowledge of value stream mapping to reduce waste and improve output in a production environment is desired
  • Experience in dimensional accuracy desired
