Job summary

Mercedes-Benz Vans, LLC, based in Charleston, SC, seeks a maintenance engineering professional to oversee equipment performance, implement maintenance programs, and drive continuous improvement in a lean manufacturing setting.

You will interface with maintenance technicians and engineering, develop and sustain PM/TPM programs, and lead cost-reduction initiatives while ensuring high quality and uptime across production lines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electronics, or Electrical Engineering is required.
  • 3+ years experience in automotive environment preferred.
  • PLC experience with major brands (OMRON, Allen-Bradley, Siemens) is needed.
  • Hands-on experience with 3D-CAD (SolidWorks, Catia, Siemens NX) and with pneumatic/hydraulic/electrical systems.

  • Develops best practices to improve equipment capacity, quality, and reliability.
  • Repair, adjust, and maintain production equipment in cooperation with staff.
  • Coordinate activities of third party contractors, vendors, or suppliers.

Job Overview

Monitors Department performance. Develops, implements, and improves the operation of equipment. Acts as interface between maintenance technicians and engineering to ensure the maintenance of equipment in production. Implement an established maintenance program and maintain detailed maintenance records.

Responsibilities
  • Develops best practices to improve equipment capacity, quality and reliability
  • Repair, adjust, and maintain production equipment, machinery, or instruments in cooperation with internal and external staff to ensure that it functions reliably and complies with process specifications.
  • Coordinates activities (PM’s, TPM, problem solving) of third party contractors, vendors, or suppliers related to the maintenance field.
  • Investigates problems, analyzes root causes and derives resolutions. Will use 8D Problem Solving Process to ensure sustainable quality products.
  • Supports development of operational strategies to achieve energy and financial objectives
  • Monitor expenses and profitability
  • Supports equipment uptime, MTTR, MTBF, and OEE by relying on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
  • Evaluates current production activities and drives improvements
  • Ensures that highly technical equipment meets required specifications and high quality standards
  • Implements cost reduction initiatives while maintaining high quality standards
  • Contributes to product and process quality design testing methods
  • Develops planning standards, methods, and procedures to maintain robust PM, TPM processes as well as robust containments and countermeasures for equipment downtime
  • Stays current with product specifications, engineering technology and production processes
  • Proposes and manages small-scale projects from beginning to end.
  • Collaborates with other departments in preparing scope of work including project requirements, milestones, deliverables, end products, documents and reports that are expected to be provided by external providers.
  • Takes an active role in the implementation of new equipment.
  • Drives the implementation of continuous improvement processes for efficiency to create a Lean Manufacturing environment.
  • Participates in regularly scheduled team meetings
  • Will perform other duties as assigned
Qualifikationen
  • Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or other relevant degree required. 3 years plus of relevant experience required, strongly preferring automotive environment including experience with:
  • PLC experience such as; OMRON, AllenBradley, Siemens
  • 3D-CAD experience such as; SolidWorks, Catia, Siemens NX, ect.
  • Hands-on experience pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, and computer controlled systems
  • Hands-on experience with process devices such as; motor drives, sensors, AC/DC converters, lifts, conveyors, etc.
  • Experience with Paint applications (chemicals, sprays, filtration, pumps, degreaser, hydrocyclones, rectifier process, anodes, anolyte systems, ultra-filtration, DI-water, industrial paint oven curing)
  • Experience with joining technologies, clinching, gluing and fluid technology
  • SAPipro
  • Hands-on Programming experience in booth or work cell
  • Hands-on experience in off-line simulations
  • Experience with project management
  • Experience with equipment installation
Knowledge And Skills
  • Knowledge of manufacturing methods/procedures and process technology.
  • Must be able to evaluate alternative solutions and support decision making process.
  • Proven written and verbal communication.
  • Able to anticipate needed and deliver timely, relevant solutions and actions.
  • Proven design & implementation of Continuous Improvement themes with savings
  • Experience in process layout and optimization incorporating asset utilization is a plus.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, instruct repair techniques, & assist if needed for root cause analysis in stressful situations
  • Ability to read & create blueprints and schematics
