Job summary

Mercedes-Benz Vans, LLC in Charleston, SC seeks a manufacturing technician to support painting and assembly operations on the line. You will prepare work areas, handle materials, seal seams, lay PVC protection, and polish parts to standard quality.

The role includes training others and ensuring 100% part and body inspection with proper documentation. Expect 2nd and 3rd shift availability, overtime and weekend work as required, with opportunities for training and career growth in a supportive

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 2+ years of relevant manufacturing experience; OR relevant certificate and 1+ years of experience.
  • Preferred: 3+ years; or certificate with 2+ years experience; ability to perform essential functions.
  • Basic craftsmanship and technical understanding.
  • Basic hand/power tool familiarity.
  • Experience using buffers/sanders on automotive paint preferred.
  • Experience in automotive paint environment preferred.
  • Must be able to perform the essential job functions.
  • Willing to work overtime and weekends as required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare workplace for manual activities.
  • Retrieve materials and keep stock levels within min-max; maintain 5S.
  • Seal interior and exterior seams.
  • Lay out PVC protection and sealants for shell surfaces.
  • Polish and buff parts; inspect and repair as needed before release.
  • Perform visual inspection for completeness.
  • Perform sanding operations.
  • Fix minor issues with paint tools and equipment.
  • Disassemble, clean, reassemble and check tool functionality.
  • Assist less experienced coworkers in training.
  • Record defects in quality reporting system and ensure 100% inspection.
  • Follow instructions and safety procedures; participate in CI.
  • Receive guidance from team leader; attend team meetings.

2nd and 3rd shift positions available

Responsibilities
  • Prepare workplace for manual activities
  • Retrieve any materials, documents, tools, or supplies necessary to perform the job function and keep stock levels within the min-max range. Keep area organized and proper 5S in place
  • Seal interior and exterior seams
  • Spray or lay out PVC protection and sika, taking into account the required surface quality on the visible parts of the shell
  • Polish and buff parts and bodies according to correct methods and materials, and clean polishing residue. Thoroughly inspect finished job and make any additional repairs before releasing
  • Perform visual inspection for completeness and proper execution of standard, document if necessary
  • Perform sanding operations
  • Fix minor issues with paint tools/equipment (such as through filter cleaning, changing of nozzles)
  • Disassemble, clean, reassemble and check functionality of tools and equipment e.g. nozzles, lances, pistols, bells/injectors
  • Assist employees with less experience or qualifications in training
  • 100% inspection of all parts, and van bodies. Record defects into the quality reporting system
  • Follow instructions and given scheme
  • Follow all safety instructions
  • Participate in the Continuous Improvement Program
  • Receives Guidance by team leader or more Senior Team Member
  • Participates in regularly scheduled team meetings
  • Will perform other duties as assigned
Qualifikationen
