Job summary

3M in Cottage Grove, MN is seeking an Industrial Maintenance Mechanic – Multi-Craft to maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and optimize mechanical equipment and piping in production and utility areas. You will work with a global team, apply preventive maintenance, and document activities in CMMS.

The role requires a High School Diploma or equivalent, a 2-year associate's degree in mechanical maintenance or apprenticeship, 5 years of experience, and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Two-year associate's degree in the mechanical maintenance field, or graduate from an approved apprenticeship program.
• Five years of experience in the mechanical maintenance/troubleshooting of industrial processing equipment.
• Must possess a current and valid driver’s license.
• Experience troubleshooting issues with processing equipment and resolving them by implementing appropriate repairs.
• At least one year of experience running basic machining equipment (turning, milling, welding)
• Understanding how to safely use rigging equipment such as hoists, cranes, lift trucks, dollies, rollers, and jacks.
• Understanding the operating principles of mechanical and hydraulic power transmission components or elements such as shafts, bearings, gears, pulleys, belts, chains, seals, fasteners, couplings, brakes, clutches, pumps, valves, and similar devices.
• Ability to read and interpret measurement instruments to better troubleshoot equipment malfunctions.
• Ability to communicate effectively and work well with other people.
• Ability and desire to work as a multi-skilled mechanical craftsperson.
• Basic computer knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, modify, and adjust mechanical equipment, piping and systems in production, lab, office and utility areas.
• Respond to shop work orders with safe maintenance and repair tasks.
• Implement and improve preventive maintenance procedures.
• Determine parts, tools, and supplies needed for jobs.
• Document work activities in the CMMS.
• Show willingness to learn and expand craft skills.
