Introduction
Anticipated openings for the 2025-2026 School Year. The Maryland School for the Deaf (MSD) is a diverse, bilingual community dedicated to providing an equitable and exemplary education to deaf and hard of hearing students. We seek committed individuals to join our team in educating these children.
Location of Position: MSD, Columbia Campus, 8169 Old Montgomery Road, Ellicott City, MD 21043.
Main Purpose of Job: A Residential Child and Youth Care Practitioner (RCYCP) at MSD provides guidance, mentorship, and assistance to deaf and hard of hearing students, helping them develop life skills and integrate into deaf culture. Supervision is from a RCYCP Supervisor or designated administrator. The role may require working evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and traveling for various activities.
Position Duties include maintaining a safe environment, communicating with parents and teachers, guiding students, teaching daily routines, documenting concerns, assessing emergencies, developing activities, and participating in professional development. Additional duties involve safety checks, supporting students during travel, and other related tasks.
Minimum Qualifications:
Desired Qualifications include knowledge of deafness, legal and ethical issues, post-secondary training, experience in residential settings, medication certification, emergency medical skills, and a valid driver’s license.
Licenses & Certifications: RCYCP certification, valid Maryland driver’s license, CPR and first-aid certifications, and background checks are required.
Special Requirements include proficiency in American Sign Language and written English, passing medical and TB screenings, substance testing, and ongoing training for certification maintenance.
