Introduction

Anticipated openings for the 2025-2026 School Year. Location of Position: MSD, Columbia Campus, 8169 Old Montgomery Road, Ellicott City, MD 21043

Main Purpose of Job: Enhanced Services Teacher Aides are responsible for working with individual students with moderate to severe disabilities and/or small groups on learning tasks planned by the teacher; tutoring students in subject areas under the supervision of a teacher; participating in supervision of lunch, recess, reinforcement programs; preparing teaching materials, bulletin boards, charts, pictures, etc.; operating audiovisual equipment; assisting in planning and carrying out field trips; assisting in clerical duties; implementing behavior management programs as directed; collecting and documenting behavioral data; improving professional competence through participation in staff development activities and other professional growth activities; participating in student after-school activities as appropriate; and assuming other responsibilities as designated by the Student Support Specialist/Enhanced Program Coordinator, Principal, or Chief Educational Programs Officer.

Position Duties:

  1. Work with an individual child or small group on a special learning task planned by the teacher and/or identified on the IEP.
  2. Assist as a tutor in a special subject area.
  3. Assist with recess, lunch duty, reinforcement, or other related activities.
  4. Assist in behavior modification and training programs, including data collection and support as needed.
  5. Help prepare teaching materials for the classroom.
  6. Transport children to other parts of the campus, such as infirmary, library, dorm, etc.
  7. Assist in all aspects of field trips.
  8. Obtain instructional materials from central supply/office secretary.
  9. Write all necessary reports and fill out all necessary forms.
  10. Participate in department meetings, trainings, and behavior management meetings as necessary.

Physical Requirements: Work involves special physical demands such as moving student equipment, assisting with evacuation of students with additional needs, overseeing movement between buildings, managing student behavior, and assisting with self-care tasks including toileting/diapering.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Fluency in ASL and written English required.
  • Knowledge of the Deaf Community preferred.
  • Experience working with deaf and hard of hearing students desired.
  • Knowledge of students with additional disabilities and the ability to teach students at different levels and with varying educational backgrounds required.

Desired or Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of Deaf Community preferred.

Special Requirements: New hires are subject to a criminal background investigation at their own expense. Candidates will need to provide three letters of recommendation.

Benefits: Contractual employees working 30 or more hours per week may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage. Employees pay 25% of premiums; the remaining 75% is subsidized by the State. Additional benefits include dental, accidental death and dismemberment, and life insurance, with full premiums paid by employees. Leave is granted at a rate of one hour per 30 hours worked, up to 40 hours annually.
