Job summary

LINCOLN PARK PUBLIC SCHOOLS seeks a Special Education Teacher ASD (SV) for a Middle School assignment. The role requires Michigan certification in special education with an SV autism endorsement, and experience with autism populations.

Center-based program experience is preferred, with START training desirable. Responsibilities include adapting curricula, implementing trauma-informed strategies, coordinating with general education teachers to support LRE, and developing individualized behavior

Qualifications

• Must hold valid Michigan Special Education Teacher Certification.
• Endorsement for Autism Spectrum Disorder (SV) required or preferred.
• Experience with Special Education population preferred.
• Center-based program experience preferred.
• START Training preferred or required by district.

Responsibilities

• Adapt, modify, and align general education curricula for students with autism.
• Assess, teach, and adjust instruction for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
• Implement trauma-informed/resiliency strategies and interventions.
• Coordinate with general education staff to maintain Least Restrictive Environment (LRE).
• Develop and evaluate individualized behavior support plans and functional assessments.
• Communicate effectively with school and community members.
• Meet the physical and mental demands of the teaching role.
• Collaborate with peers and supervisors to support student needs.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Valid Michigan Special Education Teacher Certification
• Appropriate Special Education Endorsement (SV) Autism Spectrum Disorder
• Experience with Special Education population preferred
• Experience working in a center based program preferred
• Must meet MCL 380.1531 & Administrative Rules Governing the Certification of MI Teachers
• START Training preferred

DUTIES

• Adapting, accommodating, and modifying the general education curricula, pedagogy, and learning environments for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder
• Assessing, teaching, and modifying instruction and curricula for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder
• Knowledge and skills to implement trauma-informed/resiliency based strategies & interventions
• Aligning and adapting the student's program with the general education curriculum
• Developing, implementing, and evaluating individualized behavior management strategies and plans. Must prepare and implement behavior plans based upon functional behavioral assessments.
• Using a range of curriculum guides to assist with identifying functional goals.
• Employing current assessment instruments and approaches, intervention methodologies, strategies, and techniques that are appropriate for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder linking assessment outcomes to curriculum planning.
• Ability to complete records in a timely manner
• Possess skills to communicate to all members of the school & community
• Be able to meet the physical and mental demands of the teaching profession and the position
• Philosophy in accordance with Lincoln Park Public Schools
• Ability to work collaboratively
• Ability to follow requirements of special education supervisors
• Classroom instruction and instructional leader for meeting the needs of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder
• Ability to coordinate and oversee Peer to Peer program
• Ability to work collaboratively with general education teachers to provide LRE for students with Autism
• Other duties as assigned
