Job summary

Geisinger in Danville, PA seeks an MRI Technologist to ensure accurate patient identification, optimize imaging protocols, and uphold ALARA principles. You will assist with interventional MRI procedures, educate staff, and ensure safe, high-quality imaging across modalities.

Required ARRT/NMTCB/ARMRIT certification; new grads must obtain registry before start, with level-2 advancement steps due within 24 months after hire.

Qualifications

  • ARRT, NMTCB or ARMRIT certification required on hire.
  • New graduates must obtain ARRT-R, ARRT-MR, NMTCB or ARMRIT prior to first day.
  • Applicants hired after 2024-03-10 must complete level 2 advancement steps within 24 months.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure correct patient identification and confidentiality.
  • Maximize patient safety and adhere to ALARA principles.
  • Prepare or administer medications via vascular access as prescribed.
  • Evaluate images for proper positioning and quality; verify data archiving/transfer.
  • Educate and monitor students and healthcare providers.
  • Apply MRI safety principles to minimize risk to patient and staff.
  • Assist licensed practitioner with MRI interventional procedures.
  • Perform MRI procedures as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Select pulse sequences considering established protocols and data acquisition factors.
  • Maintain MRI safety knowledge and participate in MRI safety implant investigations.

Job description

  • Ensures correct order is obtained, patient is properly identified and prepared for exam, and that clinical history is corroborated and appropriately documented while respecting confidentiality.
  • Utilizes appropriate imaging protocol and optimizes technical factors while maximizing patient safety, optimizing patient care, and applying principles of ALARA (As Low as Reasonably Achievable).
  • Preparing and/or administering, as applicable, medications through new or existing vascular access site as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Evaluates images for proper positioning and acceptable technical quality and verifies archival storage and/or transfer of data, post processing of data if applicable.
  • Educating and monitoring students and other health care providers.
  • Applying principles of magnetic resonance safety to minimize risk to patient, self, and others.
  • Assisting the licensed practitioner with magnetic resonance interventional procedures.
  • Performing magnetic resonance imaging procedures as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Selecting appropriate pulse sequences with consideration given to established protocols and other factors influencing data acquisition parameters.
  • MRI safety knowledge and participates in MRI Safety implant investigation and approval process.

Nuclear Medicine Technologist and Certification Board (NMTCB)

American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT)

New graduates must obtain ARRT-R registryor primary ARRT-MRor NMTCBor ARMRITprior to first day of employment.

Applicants hired after March 10, 2024, must complete steps required for advancing to level 2, including advanced certification, within 24 months.
