Job Description

Perform a variety of technical procedures involving exposure to a static magnetic field and the application of radio frequency waves to obtain high-quality images for interpretation by a radiologist. Ensure patient safety and provide excellent customer service.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and calibrate the MRI unit for daily operations on both low and high field magnets.
  • Select proper imaging parameters based on individual patient needs.
  • Screen patients and visitors prior to entering the MR procedure room.
  • Assess patient physical condition regarding their tolerance to complete the exam.
  • Explain the MRI procedure to patients and set expectations.
  • Verify and/or obtain informed consent for examinations requiring it.
  • Obtain and record patient history from charts, referring physicians, or interviews.
  • Position patients correctly on the gurney for imaging.
  • Place appropriate coils for satisfactory examination.
  • Protect and immobilize patients according to safety standards.
  • Utilize various technical equipment including computers, RF generators, gradient coils, and more to produce MRI images.
  • Use complex algorithms to produce axial, sagittal, coronal, and oblique images.
  • Label imaging media for radiologist interpretation.
  • Troubleshoot equipment problems and report to maintenance personnel.
  • Assist radiologists in modifying and developing imaging protocols.
  • Participate in ongoing education and training for staff.
  • Supervise and instruct radiology students.
  • Stay informed about the latest developments in MRI technology.
  • Practice sterile techniques and infection control procedures.
  • Follow hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain ethical conduct with all personnel.
  • Keep the work area clean and organized.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements

Completion of a formal radiological technology program approved by the AMA. CPR certification required. Registered technologist with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
