Qualifications

  • Current New York State licensure as a Radiologic Technologist.

Job description

JOB TITLE: MRI Technician

STATUS: Per Diem

LOCATION: SLH Massena Hospital Main - 1 Hospital Drive Massena, NY 13662

DEPARTMENT: Medical Imaging

SCHEDULE: Days/Evenings, Mon-Fri, 8 hr. shifts between the hours of 7am-7pm.

SUMMARY

As an MRI Technologist, your ability to empathize with patients, specialized technical skills, and dedication to quality, greatly enhances the overall success of MRI imaging for diagnostic use in patient care in RRH Radiology. Performs technical and specialized skills in the operation of a Magnetic Resonance (MRI) Scanner to produce high quality cross-sectional images for diagnostic purposes, while providing maximum comfort and safety to patients undergoing these procedures.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performs diagnostic MRI examinations as directed.
  • Reads charts, prescriptions and MRI requests to ascertain the existence of valid physician orders for diagnostic MRI procedures.
  • Assures proper patient identity prior to performing a MRI procedure.
  • Explains procedure to patient and assures delivery of quality MRI services.
  • Lifts and moves patients with assistance.
  • Films are processed and of acceptable quality and reviewed by Radiologist.
  • Informs supervisor of problems encountered in testing.
  • Documents all testing procedures.
  • Collects statistical data as requested and maintains appropriate records.
  • Operates scanning equipment to assure accurate results.
  • Maintains equipment and area in safe, clean, orderly manner.
  • Reports any malfunction to the supervisor.
  • Performs quality control on all equipment and maintains related records.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of equipment and new developments in area of responsibility.
  • Orders and stores MRI supplies as needed.
  • Performs procedures during unscheduled hours as needed for emergency care.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be a graduate of CAHEA approved program of medical imaging with at least one year of experience in a related diagnostic imaging modality.
  • Current New York State licensure or permit to practice as a Radiological Technologist.
  • Certification with any one of the following accrediting boards required: ARRT, NMTCB, or RDMS.
  • Requires ability to think and act quickly in order to deliver efficient, quality patient care.
  • Requires good reading and deductive skills in order to interpret physician requests and effectively solve problems.
  • Requires sufficient sensitivity and interpersonal skills to deal with apprehensive patients in a professional and compassionate manner.
  • Requires positive and effective communication skills for interaction with physicians and staff in emotionally charged situations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • CT/MRI experienced

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Moderate - Clinical - Moderate clinical roles are patient facing roles that require continual movement, including standing, walking, and lifting 20-50 lbs., along with pushing and pulling medical equipment and assisting with patient positioning. Employees perform frequent bending, twisting, and reaching while completing fine motor tasks in busy or confined clinical environments. High sensory acuity is essential for monitoring patient status and responding to alarms or safety concerns. Emotional and cognitive demands are substantial, involving decision-making under pressure, responding to emergencies, and maintaining sustained focus. Environmental exposures include infectious agents, bodily fluids, chemicals, and radiation. TB testing, mask-fit testing, and physical exams are common requirements.

PAY RANGE

$36.74 - $54.53

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
