Major Responsibilities
- Assures high quality MRI Scans are submitted by technologists to ensure optimal diagnostic information is available to radiologists for accurate and complete patient diagnosis
- Evaluates images and makes recommendations for improvement, needed changes in technique and/or positioning
- Monitors equipment failures; troubleshoots and repairs minor equipment failures; determines need for supportive service calls; contacts appropriate personnel and/or service representatives; maintains communication with service personnel to keep abreast of equipment downtime status; coordinates needed preventive maintenance repairs, and makes schedule adjustments as necessary.
- Establishes and enforces MRI safety within the MRI department
Staff Coordination
- Prepares technologist work schedules and approves any requested changes according to department staffing, and/or personal needs with regard to week-ends, holidays, vacations, etc.
- Responsible for adjustments to staffing in case of unscheduled staff shortages; determines need for float pool personnel utilization, as well as the need for overtime approval; maintains contact with the Radiology Manager regarding staffing conditions and adjustments.
- Provides verification of Time and Attendance records to maintain accurate employee records.
- Coordinates and oversees training of new employees; responsible for evaluation and verification of employee competency; participates in staff training programs; instructs and demonstrates techniques, positioning, and equipment use.
- Assumes duties of a staff technologist as needed or directed by the Manager.
- Counsels, disciplines, and reviews employees with approval of the Radiology Manager; signs off as the immediate supervisor.
- Participates in departmental meetings and provides input on operations.
Patient Flow and Safety
- Coordinates patient flow to maximize throughput and minimize waiting times
- Coordinates inpatient transportation and emergency scheduling needs
- Prepares and submits incident reports; participates in safety and quality training
- Works closely with scheduling to determine exam appropriateness and approvals
- Acts as liaison among staff, radiologists, physicians, and departments
- Ensures proper charging for contrast media and supplies
- Addresses patient, visitor, and staff concerns promptly and documents issues for follow-up
Quality Assurance and Inventory
- Develops and maintains a QA plan; recommends operational improvements
- Maintains safety standards; attends mandatory training
- Manages inventory, including ordering, receiving, and verifying supplies
Administrative and Financial Responsibilities
- Assists with exam charges, procedure updates, and training on HIS/RIS systems
- Tracks and corrects billing errors
Qualifications
- Active IDNS License
- Minimum 5 years of full-time MRI Technologist experience
- Past supervisory experience preferred
- Knowledge of MRI protocols, positioning, and techniques
- Excellent communication skills
- ARRT Registry, CPR certification
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Ability to respond to short-notice requests and flexible start times
- Ability to transport and lift patients up to 35 pounds, with equipment for heavier lifts
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, overtime, and handle infectious materials
- Must be able to take call periodically
