Schedule Details/Additional Information:
Monday- Friday 0600-1430
Minimal department on call and Holiday rotation requirements, about one holiday per year and one oncall rotation every 3 months.

Major Responsibilities:
Assures high quality MRI Scans are submitted by technologists to ensure optimal diagnostic information is available to radiologists for accurate and complete patient diagnosis
1)Evaluates images and makes recommendations for improvement, needed changes in technique and/or positioning

2)Monitors equipment failures; trouble shoots and repairs minor equipment failures; determines need for supportive service calls; contacts appropriate personnel and/or service representatives; maintains communication with service personnel to keep abreast of equipment downtime status; coordinates needed preventive maintenance repairs, and makes schedule adjustments as necessary.

3)Establishes and enforces MRI safety within the MRI department

Coordinates technologists and supporting personnel with regard to schedules, work assignments, and quality improvement standards
1)Prepares technologist work schedules and approves any requested changes according to department staffing, and/or personal needs with regard to week-ends, holidays, vacations, etc.

2)Responsible for adjustments to staffing assignments in the event of unscheduled staff shortages; determines need for float pool personnel utilization, as well as the need for overtime approval; maintains contact with the Radiology Manager regarding staffing conditions and any adjustments necessary

3)Provides verification of Time and Attendance records to maintain complete and accurate employee records

4)Coordinates and oversees training of new employees according to department orientation policies; responsible for evaluation and/or verification of employee competency; participates in formal and informal training programs given to staff; instructs and demonstrates specific techniques, positioning and equipment use

7)Assumes the duties and responsibilities of a staff technologist as needed, and/or as directed by the Manager

5)Counsels, disciplines, and reviews employees with approval of Radiology Manager; incumbent signs off as the immediate supervisor of employees within this work setting

6)Attends monthly Department Lead Meetings, and provides input regarding department operations

Coordinates patient flow through the department to ensure maximum work output with the least amount of patient waiting time
1)Coordinates inpatient transportation requests with nursing units, other ancillary departments, and radiology transportation staff

2)Coordinates scheduling needs for emergency add-on procedures in order to minimize the waiting times of previously scheduled outpatients while also attempting to offer priority scheduling to emergency patients

3)Prepares and submits incident reports as needed to ensure continuous safety and quality patient care standards according to department and hospital policies and procedures; participates in formal and informal staff training and education regarding continuous safety and quality patient care

4)Works closely with Scheduling to determine appropriateness of exam scheduling; provides approval for add-on exams; answers questions regarding patient preps, possible allergies, explanation of procedures, and/or exam scheduling conflicts

5)Provides liaison among technical and ancillary staff, radiologists, house physicians and their office staffs, ancillary and surgical departments, nursing units, department and hospital administrators

6)Ensures proper charging of contrast media and supplies on a daily basis

7)Acts as initial contact person for patient, visitors, physicians and/or staff with concerns, complaints or dissatisfaction; forwards all patient comments to Manager for additional follow up; makes any immediate corrections as appropriate to satisfy customer needs and documents same for Manager’s review and approval

With the assistance, and under the direction of the Manager of Radiology, develops and maintains a QA/Quality Assurance Plan
1)Recommends actions/methods for improvement in the quality of operations involving the MRI Department

2)Maintains fire safety standards; knowledge of department disaster, constantly implements universal and infectious safety standards, and attends mandatory inservices

3)Collects and analyzes data

Maintains inventory of department supplies
3)Participates in annual corporate inventory control within the department by counting and recording items in inventory and verifying same with corporate personnel

5)Assures that appropriate budget accounts are consulted before order placement is completed

4)Traces orders as necessary to see whether an order has been filled; contacts appropriate personnel and/or alternative sources in the event a needed supply is out of stock or back ordered

1)Must be familiar with par stocking approach

6)Inspects received orders to assure completeness

7)Provides liaison with various service, equipment, and supply vendors

2)Determines amount of supplies necessary and orders additional supplies as needed with approval of Manager

Responsible for capturing appropriate exam charges, updates to procedure files, reimbursement codes, etc., with the HIS/RIS Computer System, as well as training and overseeing department personnel following HIS/RIS Procedures; checks daily log to see that day’s exams are appropriately completed
3)Assists in tracking and identification of mislabeled or unidentified films.

1)Corrects requisitions charged in error, credits incorrect charges as necessary

2)Responsible for contacting patients needed to return to the department for additional images to enable complete and/or follow up reports

Education/Experience Required:
– Maintains active IDNS License – Minimum 3 – 5 years full time experience,as a MRI Technologist – Past supervisory experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
– Understanding of positioning and technique factors as in MRI Protocol Books – Able to perform all common MRI procedures – Good oral & written communication skills
– ARRT Registry – IDNS License – CPR

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
– Able to respond to request to work on short notice – Flexible in starting times to meet demand – As required, must be able to transport, move, and lift patients – May require rotating shifts and alternate days – Exposed to infectious diseases – Willing to work overtime when requested – Musculoskeletal hazard from large amount of job lifting – Musculoskeletal hazard from repetitive motions – Able to periodically take call
If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
