Job summary

GE HealthCare in Florence, SC seeks a Cryogenic Engineer to lead design, development, and support of superconducting MRI magnet cryogenic systems. You will partner with product, manufacturing, and service teams to deliver reliable, cost-conscious solutions for installed base MRI systems worldwide.

The role requires hands-on cryogenic experience, thermal analysis expertise, and a strong engineering problem-solving mindset.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engineering, Cryogenic Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Hands-on experience with cryogenic systems or components.
  • Experience designing, analyzing, or testing cryogenic or thermal systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design and analyze cryogenic components and systems used in superconducting MRI magnets
  • Perform thermal and heat transfer analyses, including heat load calculations, heat budgets, and verification testing
  • Support the thermal and structural design of cryogenic hardware and assemblies
  • Develop, execute, and document verification and validation activities for cryogenic components and instrumentation
  • Analyze reliability and performance of cryogenic systems and components
  • Support manufacturing and production teams with cryogenic and vacuum system expertise
  • Drive initiatives to reduce cryogen consumption and improve system efficiency
  • Investigate and resolve cryogenic, thermal, and vacuum-related issues impacting fielded MRI systems
  • Conduct failure analyses and implement corrective actions
  • Develop service tools and processes that support cryogen filling, maintenance, and safety
  • Analyze installed base performance data to identify trends and drive product improvements
  • Prepare and present technical analyses, design reviews, and engineering reports
  • Develop component specifications, test plans, and supplier requirements
  • Lead engineering productivity projects focused on product cost and lifecycle cost reduction
