Job summary

Heritage Auctions is seeking a Cataloger to research and write accurate descriptions for vintage movie posters and related materials. You will verify details through credible sources, tailor descriptions to each lot, and ensure catalog accuracy.

This full-time, onsite role requires strong editing, research, and organizational skills, with occasional travel for auctions and events. A background in film history or collectibles is highly valued.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; major in English, History, or related field preferred.
• Experience in movie poster trade or auction house is a plus.
• Interest in film history, vintage movie posters, and related collectibles.

Responsibilities

• Research and write clear, accurate, and compelling auction descriptions for vintage movie posters, lobby cards, photographs, and related film promotional materials.
• Use reliable research resources to verify details and establish historical and collecting context.
• Tailor the length and depth of descriptions to each lot’s significance, value, and research needs.
• Proofread and edit catalog copy for accuracy, consistency, grammar, and adherence to departmental standards.
• Review accompanying images to ensure they match catalog descriptions and accurately represent the material.
• Coordinate with department staff to resolve questions, manage priorities, and meet catalog production deadlines.
• Respond to prospective bidders’ questions about auction lots with clear, well-researched information.
• Support auction activities and travel to trade shows as needed.
• Lift and move boxes weighing up to 50 pounds, with reasonable accommodations as applicable.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
