Job summary

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Chillicothe VA Medical Center, is seeking a Motor Vehicle Operator in the Fleet/Grounds Department. The role involves operating Fleet/Grounds vehicles and equipment to support the facility and maintain grounds, under the supervision of the Fleet/Grounds Supervisor.

You will handle vehicle dispatching, fuel and maintenance records, and data entry for labor hours and work orders. The position offers a Monday–Friday schedule, 7:00 a.m.

Qualifications

• Experience: No fixed length, but must show training or experience of sufficient scope and quality to perform the work.
• Applicants rated per the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
• Screen-out element: ability to do the work with minimal supervision and interpretation of instructions.
• Physical requirements: heavy lifting up to 50 pounds and outdoor/indoor work in varying conditions.

Responsibilities

• Operates gasoline and/or diesel-powered vehicles to transport personnel and cargo.
• Operates vehicles up to 26,001 lbs.
• Maintains grounds equipment (tractors, weed eaters, saws, etc.).
• Transports passengers and cargo in all weather/road conditions.
• Inputs fuel receipts and maintenance receipts for VA vehicles.
• Checks vehicle requests daily and dispatches vehicles.
• Uses vehicle reporting programs (e.g., GSA Fleet).
• Completes trip logs, gas tickets, and work order data.
• Maintains driving record in good standing.
• Work schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; compressed/flexible schedule available.
